Challenge 1
The owners of this garden were keen to have a formal garden on this steeply sloping property (1.9m fall across the site). The design challenges created by this were complicated by the fact that there were Council restrictions that made it impossible to increase the height of existing boundary walls or to construct retaining walls within a metre of the boundaries of the property.
Solution
Changes in level were made gradually across the site by creating a number of linked terraces. A combination of hedges and pleached pear trees were used to increase screening on the boundary and provide privacy to the garden.
